Zagreb: The five-time World Champion Viswanathan Anand will continue his multilevel competition with Russian legend Garry Kasparov in the Grand Chess Tournament of Croatia Rapid and Blitz Tournaments starting on Wednesday, returning to over-the-board action after more than a year.
The last Over-the-Board event Maestro India in March 2020 before Covid-19 and related restrictions stopped sports actions throughout the world.
Anand will display a fast and flash segment, while his old rival and former world champion Kasparov will take part only on the Blitz event.
Anand and Kasparov, who retired in 2005, have been involved in several matches that were not involved including in the final of the World PCA championship held at the World Trade Center in New York in 1995.
He said he was waiting for chess who was excessive and also took Kasparov.
“I’m happy to be able to play again.
I have had a lot of memories of playing with Kasaparov.
But that (playing against it) will be different this time,” Anand said.
Chennai Chess Ace, which is now ranked 15th in the world, will look for good results in the high-quality field.
He is part of the Indian team, who won the Online Fide Olympics in August last year together with Russia.
Anand, who was trapped in Germany last year when locking and limiting the travel kick because of a pandemic, returning to India in June.
France Maxime Vachier-Lagrave (ELO 2807) is the highest ranking player in the field, which also includes Russian Grandmaster Alex Grischuk, Shakhriyar Mamedyarov (Azerbaijan) and Ian Nepomniachtchi (Russia).
Nepomniachtchi, who will challenge Magnus Carlsen for the world title later this year, has entered the event through wild cards such as Anand.
GMS Anish Giri (Netherlands), Jan-Krzysztof Duda (Poland), Ivan Saric (Croatia), Anton Korobov (Ukraine) and Jorden Van Forest (Netherlands) also in Medan.
Tourney will see 10 Grandmaster Elite competing more than nine fast chess rounds (to be played from 7 to 9 July) and 18 rounds of Chess Blitz (played on 10 and 11 July) for a total prize fund of $ 150,000.
In a quick chess, each player gets 25 minutes to complete the game with a 10-second increase when each movement is added.
On the Blitz show, players get five minutes for the game with a two-second increase when it was added after each movement.
