Andhra Rains: Rayalacheruvu on a violation threshold, 18 villages evacuated

Tirupati: The Administration of the Chittoor District has emptied 18 villages bordering Lake Rayalacheruvu which is on the verge of violations and can trigger floods and massive destruction if it becomes unavoidable.
The water level rises in Rayalacheruvu, which is one of the main water bodies bordering the city of Tirupati Temple has come as a major concern for district government officials who have resisted nonstop flood situations for the past four days with no rest at all.
Senior Bureaucrat PS Pradyumna who has been appointed as a special officer to oversee the flood situation in the Chittoor district along with the district collector M day Narayana, Tirupati SP Venkata Appala Naidu rushes to the Lake Rayalacovu on Sunday and checks leaks where leaks are seen at four different points.
Based on the advice of the irrigation department official, the steps to plugging in leaks using cement and sand are carried out in a place with hanging out in the local village.
According to PS Pradyumna, Rayalacheruvu now has 0.9 TMC FT water stored far above its capacity.
“After the leak is noticed and because there is a possibility of violations, we have asked the villagers of the nearest village to turn to the zone of residence immediately.
The NDRF and SDRF team has been placed in standby”, added PS Pradyumna.
Meanwhile, after the public announcement that asked people to leave their homes along with their valuables and important documents, people from 18 strange villages shifted to houses at a technical college in Camapuram Village on Sunday night .
Local residents are afraid if Rayalacheruvu breaks more than 100 villages will sink and the damage can be very severe.
