NEW YORK: Former US Open Champion Bianca Andreescu fired 21 winners to do Belgian’s quick work Sapa Minnen 6-1 6-2 in the third round of the tournament on Saturday.
The 21-year-old Canadian won almost all of his first points in the first set at the Stadium of Louis Armstrong with only four unpacted errors, two years after he lifted the trophy.
Andreescu never let Minnen get a foothold in the second set, when he fended off three break points and superior to the baseline to extend his invincible scratches in Flushing Meadows to 10-0 in more than one hour.
This tournament has become a tremendous return to be formed for sixth seeds, who lost his first match in Cincinnati last month and failed beyond the first round at Wimbledon or Roland Garros.
“I am very happy with my appearance today,” Andreescu said, who spent the 2020 season due to injury and challenges to play in Pandemic Covid-19.
“It’s not easy for several months.” It was the latest victory for Canada after Felix Auger – a 21-year-old aliiasime than Roberto Bautista Agut in the film Thriller five sets and Leylah Fernandez surprised the winner of the Grand Slam Naomi Osaka on Saturday, preparing the fourth round clash against 2016 Champion Angelique Kerber.
“I’m very grateful to be part of the group,” said Andreescu.
