Berlin: Chancellor Angela Merkel said that Germany must continue to work for democracy, because the country celebrates the warning of 31 East and West reunification.
In what was expected to be one of his last major speeches, Chancellor came out saying that “mentally and structural, unification has not been completed”.
Three decades there remained a political and economic gap between Germany who were previously East and Western communists.
The difference is illustrated in the national election last month, where alternatives far to the right for the German party won 16 constituencies in the East even when the overall voice goes down throughout the country.
Merkel said the disinformation and incitement observed in public debate was an attack on democracy, adding that his achievements should not be accepted.
“Democracy is not only there,” he told hearings in the eastern city of Halle.
“Instead, we have to work for it together, repeatedly, every day.” Merkel cited the killing of one of his party regional politicians, an attack on the Halle Synagogue, and a recent fatal shooting of a gas station employee who asked someone to wear a mask as an example of a verbal attack that led to radicalization in society.
