Petra Kvitova has retreated from the French Open after injuring her foot in a freak fall when doing her post-match press responsibilities on Sunday, the 11th seeded Czech player said in a declaration.
Two-time Wimbledon winner Kvitova, who attained the semi-finals in Roland Garros at 2020 and 2012, conquer Belgian qualifier Greet Minnen 6-7(3), 7-6(5), 6-1 in her opening game of this championship and hurt her foot soon later.
“It’s with amazing disappointment that I declare my withdrawal out of Roland Garros,” that the 31-year-old Kvitova stated on Twitter on Tuesday.
“Within my post-match media demands Sunday I fell and hurt my bum.
“Regrettably after having an MRI and even conversation with my staff, I’ve made the difficult decision it might be unwise to perform it.
It is incredibly bad fortune, but that I will remain strong and do my very best to recuperate in time to get the grasscourt season” Kvitova was expected to carry on unseeded Russian Elena Vesnina at the next round.
