Chennai: Former IPS officer Karnataka K Annamalai on Thursday was appointed as President of the Tamil Nadu BJP unit.
The National President of BJP J P Nadda has appointed K Annamalai as President of the State State of Tamil Nadu BJP, said Arun Singh’s National Secretary General in a statement.
His appointment came a day after former party unit of President L Murugan was appointed as a minister.
After quitting from IPS services, Annamala joined BJP in August 2020.
Immediately, he was appointed as vice president of the State.
He is well connected with national leadership, especially the Party Secretary General (Organization) B L Santhosh.
Annamalai was contested by unsuccessfully from Aravakuruchi’s constituency in the recent election of the Assembly in Tamil Nadu.
Party sources say the height of Murugan when MOS is to clean the deck for Annamalai and set a party tone for Lok Sabha 2024 polls.
National leadership wants a dynamic and eager leader to lead the State Unit in Tamil Nadu, which is a difficult field for the party.
Annamalai, when he joined BJP, said he would dedicate his time and energy to bring the National Spirit to Tamil Nadu and further the cause of the party in the state.
