Nagpur: In another theft incident, an unknown thief entered the parked garden which was guarded and put to sleep with sandalwood trees.
The incident occurred around Friday Midnight, police said from the Ambazari police station.
After the incident, Senior Inspector Narendra Hiware had searched for details of sandalwood trees under the jurisdiction of the Ambazari police station.
After receiving a list, the police station will intensify patrols near the cendalane tree points.
Even though it is responsible for preserving all trees in the park, Garuda’s private security agent cannot protect trees, especially sandalwood, which is a high-risk tree.
In the past too, at least 10 sandalwood trees had been stolen from the place of Ambazari Garden.
It also shows the possibility of guard involvement from the personal security agency used there.
“In the middle of the night, the guards were deployed there said he heard the sound of logging trees and ran in that direction.
Because of the dark, he could not see anyone and found the tree lost,” said the police source.
On Saturday, the supervisor of the Security Agency officially filed a complaint with the Ambazari police station.
The Superintendent Garden NMC Amol Chorpagar acknowledges that the theft of sandalwood trees in the city has increased multiply.
In recent years, at least 20 such theft throughout the city has been reported and most of them come from civilians – where NMC headquarters are – and coexist areas such as conscious, Ambazari and Maharajbagh.
Two thieves were recently arrested for stealing sandalwood trees from the official bungalow of the Deputy Police Commissioner (Zone-V) Noorul Hasan.
It seems that the gang is involved in all cases because it is very difficult to identify sandalwood trees, Chorpagar said.
