Coimbatore: City police plan to cover all entry points and exit in the city with an automatic number plate recognition camera (ANPR).
The move came after the struggle they faced in identifying vehicles involved in a mysterious death of a woman.
The woman’s body was hit by many vehicles after being dragged by an unknown multi-purpose vehicle (MPV) at Avinashi Road.
It should be noted that the city traffic police, in connection with Uyir NGOs, has an ARP camera previously remained at uppilipalayam-sitra stretching to identify vehicles involved in traffic violations.
However, they were removed when the State Highway Department began work on the highway elevated at Avinashi Road from Junction Upplipalalayam to Goldwins.
In the case of the woman’s death, it seemed like the body was thrown from the MPV near Chinniyampalayam on Monday in CCTV footage.
The body, which was then hit by several vehicles, then sent to Coimbatore Medical College and Hospital for Postmortem.Deakak M Damor, Commissioner of the City Police, said there were no signs of sexual violence or murder in postmortem reports.
“We tried to track the deceased’s identity.
It seems to be a hit and run case and we will secure the people involved in the incident immediately.” The police have formed two special teams to identify the deceased and MVP.
They have collected CCTV footage which showed a corpse that was released from the MPV.
However, they cannot identify the vehicle registration number.
“The body is released from the vehicle early on Monday.
It is rainy days and vehicles using headlamps.
So, the internet protocol camera does not register a vehicle registration number.
Visual clarity is also very bad because of the rain.
So, we have struggled to get MPV details for four days Finally, “said a police officer.
In this building, the city police commissioner said they had decided to repair anpr cameras at the entrance and out of the city.
“We already have an anpr camera and they will be repaired at the city border checkpoint – Chinniyampalayam, Selvapuram, close to Saibaba Colony, Saravanampatti, Kamatchipuram and Sugunapuram.”
