Chennai: Madras High Court on Thursday directed the central government to respond in English to representation in English, and follow the provisions of the official language law, 1963, strict.
“After representation is given in English, it is the task of the United Government to avenge English,” he said.
The direction by the Division bench from the court of Madurai was a court, which consisted of judges and justice M Duraiswamy, came to litigation of public interest submitted by Madurai MP Su Vencoasan who was looking for English only in all communications between the Center and the State Government.
Vencitasan has approached the court after the Minister of Junior House answered in Hindi for a letter from him who was seeking the establishment of the inspection center for the Crpf paramedic staff recruitment in Tamil Nadu and Puducherry.
Kirubakan justice, citing Article 350 Constitution, said that everyone has the right to provide representation in all languages used in trade unions or countries.
He said that once the question was given in English, it was the assignment of the United Government to avenge in English.
He added that this was in consonance with the official Language Act.
The court also directed the United States and all its instruments to follow the official language law, especially part 3, which said that both Hindi and English must be used for official documents.
Kirubakan justice also said, “There are several languages in India which are hundreds or even thousands of years” and that the government must make efforts to preserve it.
