Hyderabad: Andhra Pradesh and Telangana are at the peak in increasing forest cover, according to the Indian Forest State Report 2021 released by the Minister of Compassion for the Environment, Forest and Climate Change, Bhupender Yadav.
The total forest cover and the country’s tree is 80.9 million hectares, which is 24.62 percent of the country’s geographical region.
Compared to assessment of 2019, there is an increase of 2,261 square kilometers in total forest and state trees.
A total of 17 states / UT have above 33 percent of the geographical area under the forest cover.
This report was prepared by the Indian Forest Survey (FSI) which had been mandated to assess the forest resources and state trees.
Forest Survey Report 2021 showed an increase of 2,261 square kilometers in total forest cover and state trees in the past two years.
Wise-Wise Madhya Pradesh has the largest forest cover in this country.
The maximum increase in forest cover is seen in Andhra Pradesh at 647 Km square followed by Telangana with 632 square kilometers and Odisha with 537 square kilometers.
The total carbon stock in the state forest is estimated at 7,204 million tons, which is an increase of 79.4 million tons.
ISFR-2021 provides information about forest cover, tree cover, mangrove cover, growth stock, carbon stock in Indian forests, forest fire monitoring, forest cover in the tiger reserve area, above the biomass land estimates using SAR & hotspot climate change data in India forests .

From this, the increase in forest cover was observed as 1,540 square kilometers and on the cover tree was 721 square kilometers.
Wise-Wise Madhya Pradesh has the largest forest cover in the country followed by Arunachal Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Odisha and Maharashtra.
In terms of forest cover as a percentage of the total geographical region, five top states are Mizoram (84.53%), Arunachal Pradesh (79.33%), MEGHALAYA (76.00%), Manipur (73.90%) and Nagaland (73.90%).
Seventeen states / UT above 33 percent of the geographical area under forest cover.
Out of these countries and UT, five states / Utember, Lakshadweep Islands, Mizoram, Andaman & Nicobar, Arunachal Pradesh and Meghalaya have more than 75 percent of forest cover while 12 states / UTS are Manipur, Nagalan, Kerala, Sikkim, Uttarakhand, Chhattisgarh, Dadra & Nagar Haveli and Daman & Du, Assam, Odisha, have forest cover between 33 percent to 75 percent.
