Kolkata: The fire broke out in the Jaya Cinema – The old five-decade theater in Lake Town was converted into two private screens of non-multiplex Movie – on Friday night.
Fifteen tenders fire rushed to the place and managed to catch fire at midnight.
Firefighting officials said the fire broke out on the upper floors of Jaya II, also known as Mini Jaya (because he added several years after the older Jaya Cinema building) around 9.45pm.
Fire Minister Sujit Bose said the fire might rupen while the cinema caretaker and his wife were cooking in one room they took refuge on the upper floor of the building.
“It seems like the fire starts while the woman is cooking.
The woman itself has suffered burns and has been taken to the hospital.
Caregivers also suffer injury,” Bose said.
After the covid-19-induced locking during the first wave of Covid-19, the Twin theater had died only to reopen in December last year with the “principle” Christopher Nolan.
Close again in April this year after the country’s order on security restrictions and has not been reopened.
A senior theater official said they were still unsure about how the fire broke and demanded a thorough investigation.
Other officials said the Jaya II projector room had burned severely and they had not judged the level of damage that was right until the end of Friday
