API in TPA Bandhwari, officials say high temperatures cause it

Gurgaon: The fire broke out in TPA Bandhwari along Gurgaon-Faridabad Road on Sunday afternoon, sending a large cloud of smoke to the nearest residential area.
Officials say 12 fire tenders managed to extinguish the fire in two hours.
Sunday night, residents say they can still see the fire here and there.
While officials from firefighters claimed that increased temperature had triggered Blaze, City Commissioner Mukesh Ahuja said they would need a little more time to ensure the reason.
Firefighting officials said they received information about fire around noon.
Ten tender fire rushed to the place from Gurgaon while two of Faridabad joined later.
“Even though we managed to control the flame in two hours, smoke came out of the garbage until night.
The firefighters have sprayed the area (spread in 30 hectares) to prevent flare-ups,” said Gulshan Kalara, the additional division division officer.
Environmental lovers raise concerns about the effects of fire at the level of air quality and accuse the corporation of the city of Gurgaon (MCG) and concession holders, ecogreen, do not separate waste in plastic water sources.
Vaishali Rana Chandra, an activist, said the site waste filled with plastic and other flammable materials, which leads to methane emissions.
“The waste disposal site is one of the highest contributors of greenhouse gases and bandhwari is the biggest trash can from Haryana.
High temperatures can trigger fire, which is common due to methane gas emissions.
But the Civic body has failed in total in ensuring the separation of waste in the source,” he added.
Every day, 800-1,000 tons of waste are added to the garbage mountain in bandhwari.
“Obviously MCG did nothing,” Chandra said.
Sanjay Sharma, Deputy CEO of Ecogreen, said they made an effort to reduce the TPA height with the help of the tromell machine.
“Security norms are at the location in accordance with NGT guidelines.
It’s a natural burning because of the methane that causes a fire,” he added.
Meanwhile, Commissioner MCG Ahuja said, “We control the fire on time.
The cause is not ascertained, but I have asked officials to submit a report after the investigation so that such an incident was not repeated.”
