Appetite for English education soared in India, reduced in China

Written by news2in

LONDON: The number of Chinese students in the first year undergraduate and graduate levels registered at UK universities has dropped for the first time while the number of Indian students has reached new highs.
This includes students who enrolled for a degree of one year.
The latest figures from the Higher Education Statistics Agency (HESA) show that the number of Chinese students the first year down 5%, from 104 240 in 2019/2020 to 99 160 in 2020/2021.
By contrast the number of new students from India jumped by 27%, from 41 815 in 2019/2020 be 53 015 in 2020/21, the highest figure on record.
Indians represent 19% of all non-EU registration in 20/21.
This is the first time since HESA began collecting data in the early 1990s that the number of students from China have fallen.
Currently there are 143 820 Chinese students in all years of study at UK universities, making it the largest number of international students.
Students from India, where now there are 84 555 in the whole year, is the second largest group.
The number of Indians who came to the UK to study has increased sharply since 2018/2018 when there were 18 305 first-year students.
“The UK is a destination chosen by the student from India,” said President of the National Student Association of India Amit Tiwari.
“The factors driving this is the quality of education, recognition of qualifications and, of course, English.
Students India also appreciated the fact that they have the opportunity to apply the experience to their studies for a work visa post-study.
We can only see the trend of rising student India come to England.
“work visas after two years, known as the graduate, opened for applications on 1 July 2021.
It is not known whether the decline caused by the Chinese students Covid-19 and Chinese students are unable to travel or worry about having to spend one years in England studying online for a pandemic, or whether it is due to the deteriorating relationship between the UK and China.
“Glad to see the increasing number of international students in the UK but we needed to diversify our university recruitment,” said Jo Johnson, a former minister of the university, which is the Prime Minister of England, brother Johnson.
He told Toi: “To have three international students from outside the EU come from China represent a material risk to the financial resilience of the UK higher education system and the wider knowledge economy.” Sanam Arora, founder and chair the national student and alumni Union UK, said: “We have long believed that India is a partner of the most natural for the United Front for International Education, and that the UK could significantly increase the intake of Indian students.
If it is able to provide bid interesting.
Right after the work is very important to study the offer, and the results are already being seen in the doubling of the numbers from India and I think this increase will continue.
I am pleased to see what comes out of the FTA negotiations.
