Apple Inc.
said it would be for the first time starting to sell spare parts and tools to the general public to make their own repairs on several iPhones and Mac computers.
Supermarket improvement programs come after years of pressure from a group of consumers have resulted in Apple providing greater access to genuine repair and spare parts manuals.
In 2019, Apple began a program where independent repair stores could buy parts, equipment, and manuals.
Apple said there were now 2,800 independent stores in the program in addition to 5,000 official repair providers.
Under the supermarket, Apple customers will be able to buy parts directly to make their own repairs after reading the manual.
Apple said that online stores will begin with around 200 parts and tools that aim to fix the most common problems with display, batteries and cameras on the iPhone 12 and 13 models.
This program will eventually expand to Mac computers that use the Apple M1 chip and then to improvements that are less common.
Customers will be offered the same price in spare parts and tools as an independent workshop and will be able to restore their spare parts to Apple after completing repairs to receive discounts.
Apple said this program will begin early next year in the United States and develop to more countries this year.
