Rarely a product launching becomes a’mysterious saga’ but that is exactly what appears to be occurring with the Apple AirPower mat.
The AirPower mat is or was (?) Supposed to become a wireless charging apparatus capable of charging both the iPhone, Apple Watch along with AirPods together.
Apple officially shelved the item however, rumour has it it could be restored.
As per a report by Bloomberg,”Apple is still researching a prospective wireless charger which operates similarly to its unsuccessful AirPower, a charging pad made to simultaneously power up an iPhone, Apple Watch and also AirPods.” Not only the report further claims that Apple has been”exploring” additional wireless charging systems also.
These approaches can operate over”larger distances than the usual connection,” says the report.
For people that are unaware, that the AirPower mat made an appearance in 2017 during the introduction of the iPhone X.
Apple in its own keynote showcased the apparatus but never actually spoke about it.
Rumours went forth and back within the launching of AirPower mat for nearly two decades.
But in 2019, Apple formally declared that it’s killing the item.
Dan Riccio, Apple’s SVP of hardware technology, stated in March 2019 that,”We have reasoned AirPower won’t reach our standards and we’ve canceled the undertaking.” This past calendar year, successful Apple tipster Jon Prosser indicated that Apple might be working on reviving this item.
However in October 2020,” Prosser decided that the item had been’dead’ back again.
“All of AirPower prototyping / testing was taken out of the program for 2021.
Resources doubt that it will be picked up again.
Sounds like once more, AirPower is lifeless,” Prosser’d remarked.
The most recent Bloomberg accounts adds yet another chapter to the AirPower mat saga.
The report says that the deadline of the launching of AirPower or a comparable product isn’t known and can be”a long time” away.
