Chennai: Grandmaster Arjun Errotis became the fourth Indian player after P Harikrishna, B Adhiban and Vidit Gujrathi to win the Steel Challengers event at Wijk Aan Zee in the Netherlands on Saturday night.
The 18-year-old won a tournament — 9.5 points from 12 matches —- with a round to regret after his draw against Thai and Van Nguyen Vietnam.
Arjun has now qualified for the 2023 edition of Tata Steel Masters.
Arjun enjoyed a dream of running in the tournament with 7 wins and 5 series.
The extraordinary show means that he also enters 100 world ratings during competition.

Arjun, was trained by GM Srinath Narayanan and was guided by Viswanathan Anand as part of Westbridge Anand Chess Academy, efficient in his praise about the duo.
“Working with both must have raised my game.
I really benefited from the insights provided by Anand and Srinath.
Lately, I have emphasized my openings and the results began to show,” Arjun showed.

“I did not have the best position in the game but was able to draw it.
Everything fell when I won my second round match and from there, it was about making sure I maintained momentum,” Arjun said.
Arjun’s playing style seems to have impressed Champion World Magnus Carlsen who appeared at Tata Steel Masters.
