Ghaziabad: To promote sports literacy in this country ahead of the Tokyo Olympics, Ghaziabad-based NGOs, sports – way of life, organizing an event in the city on Friday.
It was attended by Arjuna Awardee Zafar Iqbal and a former sportsman of various fields who emphasized the need to instill sports culture in the younger generation.
Van Awareness of sports literacy is also marked from Ghaziabad who will travel the whole country to create awareness about the importance of sports in everyday life.
Kanishka Pandey, President of NGO, said, “In country 1.3 billion, only 5% know about sports and this is the main stumbling block for India that does not research both in international events.
This must change, and our NGO sports – How to have Lead in this direction.
“Sports literacy is defined as the capacity to place sports skills and knowledge for functional use for citizenship informed and involved.
Iqbal’s hockey legend which was part of the contingent winner in the 1980 Moscow Olympics where India won gold was also on that occasion.
Praising the efforts of NGOs, he said, “It’s time for India to make a sign at the international stage which lately happens, but it is necessary to encourage.”
