New Delhi: Head of the Army General M M Naravane on Saturday released postage stamps to commemorate the Permanent Commission for female officers in the Indian Army.
The Supreme Court, in the decision of the landmark in February 2020, has directed the center to ensure that the Women’s Short Service Commission (SSC) officers were given permanent commissions (PC) in the Indian Army, including command posts.
The army said on Saturday tweeted, “On the occasion of the Army Day, General M M Naravane, Army Chief of Staff, released postage stamps, ‘permanent commission for female officers in the Indian army’.” After the SC decision, the Army formed a special selection board in September, 2020 to filter female officers.
The results were stated in November 2020.
Women’s officers who were not given a PC moved the APEX court.
In March, 2021, the court found that “the evaluation criteria set by the army were systemic discrimination” against these female officers.
The top court, in the order of 2021 March, put a revised parameter based on the evaluated by female officers for the permanent commission in the Army.
After that, in July 2021, a total of 147 additional female SSC officers from the Indian Army were given a commission to remain in accordance with the revised parameters set by the Supreme Court.
