NEW DELHI: The Indian Army Choice Board clears the road for the promotion of five female officers to Colonel ranked (time scale), after the settlement of 26 years of service that can be counted.
The five female officers chosen for the Colonel time scale ranking are LT COL Sangeeta Sardana from the signal, LT COL Sonia Anand and LT COL Navneet Duggal from Corps of Eme and LT COL Ritcha Sagar from the engineer corps, the Defense Ministry said.
This is the first time a female officer on duty with a signal corps, electronic and mechanical (EME) (EME) corps and corps engineers have been approved to the rank of Colonel.
Previously, promotion to Colonel ranking only applies to female officers at the Army Corps (AMC), Judge Advocate General (JAG) and the Army Education Corps (AEC).
The promotional road widening to more branches of the Indian Army is a sign of an increase in career opportunities for female officers.
Combined with the decision to provide a permanent commission to female officers from the majority of the Indian army branches, this step defines the Indian Army approach to gender neutral soldiers.
