Arsenal have canceled their pre-season tour to the United States after a small number of positive Covid-19 cases at the club, said the team on Tuesday.
Arsenal plans to participate in the Florida Cup this month beside fellow Premier League teams Everton, Serie A Champions Inter Milan and Colombian Clothing Millonarios.
“Following a small number of positive Covid tests among the planned parties to travel to America tomorrow, we were sadly forced to withdraw from the Florida Cup,” Arsenal said on their Twitter account.
“This difficult decision is based on ensuring the health and welfare of our players and staff.” The London side is scheduled to face Inter on Sunday, with a winner facing Victor in Everton’s match against Millonarios on July 28.
Meanwhile, the word Fabian Delph midfielder will not travel with team troops for Orlando “as a precautionary measure after relating to someone who has since been positively tested for Covid-19”.
Delph will continue the pre-season training as soon as the Mandiri isolation period ends, said Club Merseyside in a statement.
Arsenal Mikel Arteta began their pre-season preparations in Scotland and played two matches, losing 2-1 to Hibernian and drawing 2-2 with Rangers.
Arsenal are eighth in the Premier League last season and started their 2021-22 campaign at promoted Brentford on August 13.
