Mumbai: With the APEX Agency for Technical Education ATNE opened the gate for engineering education in eight Indians, the Indian Institute of Technology has launched an open source system driven by AI, which translates scientific and technical content from English to Hindi and other Indian languages.
To improve engineering studies in regional languages, the team aims to translate 500 engineering texts into Hindi in one year and in 15 Indian languages in three years.
Using artificial intelligence, the system is expected to complete the task at the sixth velocity where the translator will work manually.
The projection, because the initiative was known, it was seeded seven years ago when Professor Ganesh Ramakrishnan, Professor of the Chairman of the Institute, Department of Computer Science and Engineering, IIT Bombay, and his team analyzed the widespread gap in the availability of technical knowledge in Hindi and other indian languages.
Commenting on the spread of machine-based translations for the project, Krishnaswamy Vijayraghavan, the main scientific advisor to the Government of India, said: “Because of technology, because we can make glossari in each area, because we can scan and translate, for most types of documents, you can get a level High accuracy of machine-based translations.
“He, however, shows that” there will still be a big requirement for human intervention that will highlight the nuances that are important to translate.
” He said the effort spoke to a deep understanding of the people needed to excel.
“To excel in a field, you must have a rootedness in your culture, in your community and use your understanding of your language that comes from your language.
If you see China, Japan, Sweden or Germany, education especially in their native language but the ability of bi- Lingual or trilingual is normal.
“Professor Ramakrishnan said,” Our approach to the machine translation has been assisted by human efforts.
We started building lexicons from various technical domains.
We have developed strong bilingual OCR technology and some post-editing tools with us Now has access to a digital bilingual dictionary in a readable machine format.
We, therefore, can use the appropriate scientific and technical terms available in Hindi instead of translating English terms.
“By deploying AI-based translation machines, a technical books can be translated in less than one sixth time NG is needed for teams from domains and linguistic experts working manually.
“In time, we hope to reach a much shorter settlement time,” said Ramakrishnan.
