Artificial lake at 7K feet in Uttarakhand triggered fear of flooding

Dehradun: The lake made by 300m formed at 7,000 feet following heavy rain in Munsiyari in the Pithoragarh district has triggered fear of flash floods among the local residents, reported Gaurav Talwar & Plum Punetha.
The lake has been formed in the Maalupati area after a landslide driven by heavy rain blocking the seasonal, Bhupendra Singh Mahra, District Disaster Management, was confirmed to TII.
In the past week, Pithoragarh Regency has received 44.9mm rainfall with heavy bath attacks in several places, including Munsiyari and Dharchula on Friday and Saturday, according to the regional meteorological center.
A team of administrative officials visited the lake to be examined after local residents warned them on Saturday.
“A team of income officials sent to the site.
They are expected to submit reports on Mondays and the necessary steps will be taken,” said disaster management officers.
Officers added that the situation was being monitored and that “the level of threat that was assessed” from the water body had diminished due to the surface of the lake water continuously down.

Vicky Chiral, a resident, admitted that the lake water surface was reduced since Saturday, but added that the threat was not completely lost.
