New Delhi: There is a clear shift from private schools to government schools in the last three years, with Uttar Pradesh and Kerala reported a maximum increase in government school registration, according to the annual status of the education report (Aser), 2021.
This report is based on surveys conducted in 25 states and three union areas.
It covers a total of 76,706 households and 75,234 children in the age group of five to 16 years.

4,872 schools, which have been reopened after their closure because of the pandemic, was physically surveyed when they collected 2,427 schools that had not been opened during the survey contacted by telephone.
The report showed that there were no changes in the proportion of children aged six to 14 which were not registered at school.
According to the report, the proportion of children who are currently not registered in schools increased from 1.4 percent to 4.6 percent by 2020.
This proportion remains unchanged between 2020 and 2021.
Among children in the age group 15-16, increasing government school registration from 57.4 percent in 2018 to 67.4 percent in 2021 has been driven by a decline marked in the proportion of children ‘out of school’ of 12, 1 percent in 2018 to 6.6 percent by 2021, and with a decrease in private school registration, he added.
