Kendrapada: Asha worker in the Kendrapada district surrendered to Covid on Friday night even though he had taken both the covishield vaccine dose.
Saraswati Malkick (35), an Asha worker in Bhuipur Village, was treated at Covid Hospital in Chhata on June 26.
He was placed in a ventilator after his oxygen level went down and he died on Friday night.
Asha workers survived by her husband and a nine-year-old son.
He is believed to have contracted a virus during the door-to-door playback.
He had to be hospitalized after he began to experience respiratory problems and developed cough and fever.
This is the first death of a health worker in the district after being fully vaccinated.
“Despite being vaccinated, he contracted a virus.
Two days before he died, he was placed in a ventilator.
He has developed severe pneumonia which leads to respiratory failure,” said Yashaswini Sahati, assistant manager for Asha workers at the District Head Office Hospital in Kendrapada.
“We are conducting a search for locals who may have been exposed to him,” said Chief District Medical Officer (CDMO), Dr.
Anita Patnaik.
“In a rare case, people die despite vaccination,” he added.
