Tokyo: 200 meter world champion Dina Asher-Smith said on Saturday she withdrew from the event at the Tokyo Olympics due to a hamstring injury.
After failing to reach the 100m Olympic final, Asher-Smith who was crying told the BBC that he had ripped hamstring before the match.
“I will withdraw, and that is the one who is a world of governing and (as) in good condition you know that the Olympic champion is not most of the steps further,” the British said.
“The last few weeks my athletes’ life is really crazy,” he added.
The 25-year-old said he almost pulled away from the match before traveling to Tokyo after the first examination of his hamstring injury but the second opinion was revealed no broke.
“My hamstring is still installed, so we reverse each stone to make sure I can stand on the phone,” he said.
But with a heat of 200m starting on Monday, he had decided not to run.
Asher-Smith, who won the 200m world title in Doha two years ago, has been withdrawn from the British Grand Prix at Gateshead earlier this month, complaining of injury.
Even though he then insisted before the match he was suitable to compete, he could only manage third place in his 100m semifinals at 11.05sec, which was not enough to advance to the final.
“Obviously I was very disappointed not to make the final because this was Tokyo 2020, it was all I trained over the past two years,” he said.
