LOS ANGELES: WTA and ATP Tours have canceled events in China and Japan scheduled later this year because of the ongoing Covid-19 concern and restrictions on trips in both countries, confirmed Thursday.
In the update of a separate schedule, WTA and ATP said China opened in Beijing and Japan open in Tokyo both were deleted.
WTA said all events in China and Japan were canceled with the exception as the WTA final because it took place in the city of South China Shenzhen.
The status of the tournament was “being discussed” which WTA said.
ATP, meanwhile, said the Master of Shanghai still hoped to be staged in October, in a week before BNP Paribas who was rescheduled in Wells India, California, which lasted from 10-17 October.
The Wells India tournament was canceled in 2020 because of a pandemic and rearranged from his traditional slot in March this year.
