Guwahati: Two people were shot dead and at least seven police were injured in a clash when Police Assam made an encouragement to expel encroachment from large plots of land included in the State Framing Project in Garukhuti in Darrang.

The eviction was aimed at starting community agriculture by eliminating encroachment and the first phase carried out on Monday when 800 households that were illegally around 4500 BIGHA land was evicted and four illegal religious structures and institutions.
On Thursday when the police arrived in the area to drive the remaining households, the seizure attacked them and the retaliation police had to use a shootout after a tear gas shot failed to stop the seizure.
The previous cabinet decided to free this government land from illegal encroachment and turn it into an agricultural project.
