Guwahati: The stages are arranged for the selection of by-election to the famous majuli chair, which falls emptiness after former Minister of Chief Sarbanou Sonowal was appointed in the Cabinet Narendra Modi last year.
The young and energetic leaders of Assam Parishad (AJP), Chittaranjan Basumatary, former student leader (Aasu) Assam, will face Bhuban GAM BJP, a social worker and entrepreneur from a politically active misting community, in Majuli in Bypolls scheduled for March 7 a day after The GAM name was announced, AJP on Tuesday was named Basumatary as their candidate.
Congress has decided to leave Majuli’s chair to AJP because in the last election in October, AJP did not give candidates and expand full support to Congress.
President AJP Lurinjyoti Gogoi said that it was the need for hours to serve consensus candidates from the anti-BJP parties.
“We have insisted on the opposition to unite against BJP and its allies.
They are the biggest threat to secularism and communal harmony,” Gogoi said.
Apart from Congress, LED Raijor Dal Akhil Gogoi has also extended unconditional support to the AJP candidate in Majuli.
“The island has shrunk the most worrying of 1,200 square kilometers to around 500 square kilometers.
Brahmaputra has washed 700 square kilometers.
The government consecutive has failed to fight erosion,” Gogoi said.
Basumatary, a resident of the closest Dhemuji District, said Majuli’s protection would add their agenda and accused the government’s initiative led by BJP to connect Majuli with the bridge was ‘gimmick’.
He dug GAM and said BJP candidates cared more about his business outside of Majuli.
“GAM is not a substitute for Sonowal.
He won’t even be picked as a minister,” Basumatary said, who tried his luck for the second time after losing to BJP Roman Pegu (Minister of Education now) in Dhemuji in the election of the last assembly.
BJP BJP spokesman Goswami said it would be a smooth screen for the Saffron alliance in Majuli.
“Our candidates are accepted by people related to Satras and other tribal communities,” Goswami said.
Chairman of Himanta Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said the Congress and AJP were not suitable allies.
“How can AJP, who talked about more than 800 assam agitation martyrs, was on the same page as Congress? It was painful to see them join Congress,” Sarma said.
