Assam can look at the acute bed crisis if the third wave covid-19 hits

Guwahati: Assam may face critical time if the third wave Covid-19 touches the country in the next few months.
If 23% of the total cases require hospitalization, because Niti Ayog has warned, so in a count of three to four days all the beds of the government hospital will be filled and there will be a shortage of a terrible bed.
During the peak of the second wave at the end – May, Assam reported nearly 6,000 cases every day.
On average, every patient takes around 10 days to run out.
If the infection rate in the third wave remains the same as in the second wave peak period, the situation can change the disaster.
“At a medical hospital, there are around 2,200 functional beds with oxygen.
Assam currently has the capacity to treat around 5,000 Covid patients simultaneously if we consider the district hospital.
This includes iksus and oxygen-supported beds,” said Medical Director Assam .
Education, Dr.
Anup Kumar Barman.
There are around 1,540 complete ICU beds in the state.
In September, the government plans to complete the bed of five to 10 pediatric ICU (trigger) in the district hospital and up to 30 additional picuses in every medical hospital.
However, Assam NHM could not provide details of progress when TII approached the authorities concerned.
Closure of all emergency hospitals in the state, except for one in Guwahati, may be problematic because experts warn the third wave that will soon occur in September-October.
The number of Covid patients who were hospitalized in one day in the state had never passed 5,000 for two Covid-19 waves.
The source in the Ministry of Health, however, expressed concern about the bed crisis if the number of cases in the third wave might surge suddenly.
“If a double number, around 2,800 patients will need to take care of every day in accordance with the prediction of Niti Ayog.
In terms of two days, all beds at the government hospital will be occupied.
In private hospitals there will be several beds,” an official said the department state health.
In addition, in Assam, only around 29 lakh from 2.31 crore which is estimated to be 18+ people have been vaccinated until the date with the second dose and this is a great concern for the Ministry of Health.
“Vaccine shields may not protect Assam if the third wave attacked in September.
Unless the majority of the people are immunized with a dose, concerns will be there,” the official said, adding that the state government together for several alternative campaigns to accelerate drive inoculation at Which state, lately, around 2.5 lakh people are vaccinated every day.
However, he said that it might need months to achieve an inoculation target of 2.31 Crore, considering the number of uneven vaccination.
