Guwahati: A total of 14 newborns had a narrow escape on Friday after a massive fire department in child care units in the government-managed hospital in the West Assam district.
The incident occurred in the Talpara civil hospital.
Electric short circuits are thought to be the cause of the fire.
The hospital authorities said the fire broke around 9:30 a.m.
in a special newborn baby care unit that followed which nurse and other staff there immediately evacuated the baby.
The purpose of the Joint Director (Health) Nile Madhab Das said the fire was immediately doused before it could spread.
He said as soon as the fire broke, the nurse was present in the opening window and shifted a newborn baby.
“All babies are safe and have been treated in a newborn baby care unit in a private hospital in Goalpara for now,” he added.
Deputy Commissioner Objective Meenakshi Das Nath, who rushed to the hospital, said, “All 14 babies and mothers are safe and shifted to the nearest private hospital.
We suspect that the fire broke out due to a short circuit.

“This relates to mentioning that on November 10, one ventilator of intensive care units (ICU) from the pediatric environment at the Medical College Hospital Assam (Amch) in Dibrugarh caught fire.
