Silchar: As part of an unilateral ceasefire agreement between the Militant National Liberation Army (DNLA) and the Government of Assam, a group cadre that is prohibited will surrender weapons in a program in Maibang Sub-Division on Saturday.
According to sources, the pact was signed before the Chairman of the Minister of Himanta Buswa Sarma between DNLA and the state government last month which he said would put their arms and join the mainstream.
This program, where militant clothing cadres will hand over their weapons, will be held in the playground in Khepre in Maibang on Saturday.
An additional minister and director General of Police (Special Branch) Hiren Nath is likely to be present at the event.
Police Supervisors (Dima Asao) Jayant Singh said DNLA has signed an agreement with the state government as part of where they will submit their arms officially on Saturday.
Asked about the number of DNLA cadres (who will hand over their arms on Saturday), he said it would be known on Saturday.
