Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma inaugurated the new ICU complex in GMCH

Guwahati: Chairman of Himanta Minister Buswa Sarma, on Tuesday, dedicated the new 200-bed ICU complex to be built in the Gauhati medical medical hospital to the people of Assam.
ICU with 200 beds, four dialysis beds, 80,000 liters of liquid medical oxygen and fire detection and prevention systems have been arranged at RS 20 Crore expenditure.
CM said that oxygen facilities would help the state in storing medical oxygen and using it in an emergency case, rendering assistance to patients.
Sarma said that the day was very significant for GMCH health infrastructure and hoped that the main government hospital would greatly help poor and less capable.
“Before the first wave of the Covid-19 pandemic hit the country, Guwahati only had 67 ICU beds.
However, in a range a little more than a year, the city has a total of 591 ICU beds, taking all government health institutions in consideration,” he said.

Sarma also asked the state health department to take steps for the installation of the extracorporeal membrane oxygenation machine (ECMO) in all eight medical college hospitals.
ECMO machines are similar to the lung by-pass machine used in open heart operation.
It pumps oxygen to the body, allows the heart and lungs to rest.
Sarma asked the Director of the National Health Mission (NHM), Lakshhman to bind with NGOs to start steps to establish a Bank Oxygen Concentrator (OCB) in each state district, to provide assistance to post-covid patients, in case they need oxygen.
He said that the district was very affected because Covid-19 will get OCB.
The main minister directed the health department to send two doctors and four nurses in all hospitals throughout the state to make medical care to covid patients even in distant areas.
Sarma said that on behalf of Covid, poor people living in the country’s interior should not lose medical attention and direct the direct post of doctors and nurses.
Under the NHM scheme, CM also presents an appointment letter to 896 GNMS to increase the power of nursing staff.
