Assam: Fresh Flood Wave Hits Majuli, Kaziranga

Jorhat: The wave of fresh floods about the largest river river island in Majuli and the World Heritage Site UNESCO Kaziranga National Park (KNP) and Tiger Reserve on Friday due to rising water surfaces in Brahmaputra in Neematighat in the Jorhat district in the last 12 hours.

Officials of the Department of Water Resources and Administrative District Jorhat has rushed to the neematighat to take steps to protect the Brahmaputra embankment on the north side.
Deputy Commissioner Jorhat Ashok Kumar Barman visited Neematighat on Friday morning and took a stock situation.
Barman directs the Department of Water Resources to take all the necessary steps to ensure the protection of embankments.
He also visited the sites affected by erosion in neematighat and asked officials to ensure vulnerable location protection during the flood.
Majuli Administration suspends the Ferry Services of Neematighat-Majuli from Friday.
A district administrative official in Majuli said, “More than 20 villages in the lower Majuli area have been influenced by the flood so far.
However, the situation has changed seriously in the riverbank area located outside the embankment.” Floods flooded Kaziranga National Park on the day Friday when Brahmaputra swelled in neemattiat.
A forest official in Kaziranga said the flood had entered the edge of the garden.
“The low garden area has been submerged by floods.
But the situation is under control,” he said.
A report by the Department of Water Resources on Friday said the Brahmaputra water level in the neematighat was 86.82 meters, one meter higher than the danger level of 85.54 meters.
“According to weather forecasts, the water level is expected to increase in the next 12 hours,” he said.
