GUWAHATI: The Gauhati High Court on Monday said the government may think of opening a dedicated post-Covid clinic in a government hospital or medical college in Kamrup (Metro) district on a trial basis, depending on its resources.
Hearing the petition filed by Anjan Nagg, the Bench of Chief Justice Sudhanshu Dhulia and Justice Achintya Malla Bujor Barua sought a response from the government in the matter within a week.
“Petitioner has filed certain documents which suggest that such clinics must be opened as even after recovery from Covid-19, many of the patients require constant monitoring as in some cases, other ailments set in,” the petition read.
However, the state government submitted before the court that each patient is being monitored through telemedicine platform after recovery.
The hearing was limited to the setting up of post-Covid clinics only even though the petitioner raised several concerns.
“Today the matter which has come up for our consideration is limited to the establishment of post-Covid clinics in Assam,” Monday’s order stated.
The court fixed June 16 as the next date of hearing.
The petitioner had also raised the issue of Covid-19 tests and vaccination in the tea gardens.
There are about 800 tea gardens in the state.
In its previous hearing on May 24, the HC sought a written reply from the state government regarding the tests and what kind of tests are being carried out in the tea gardens in the state and vaccination as the tea gardens have witnessed massive spread of the lethal virus during the second wave of the pandemic.
On the use of Mobile Medical Units (MMU) for conducting Covid-19 tests in the tea gardens, the high court on May 27 stated, “As far as the MMUs and their use in these tea gardens is concerned, we have absolutely no doubt that since the government already has the resources, these MMUs must be put in use for testing and other purposes in the tea gardens as well, if not already being done.”
