Assam might lose the target of teen vaccination ‘Feb

Guwahati: The slow step of the vaccination of children in Assam can cause non-compliance with the February 28 deadline set by the government to manage the two doses of Covid-19 vaccine.
In Assam, only around 43.23% of children have been vaccinated to date, mostly with the first dose.
Minister of Himanta Minister Buswa Sarma said on Monday that the state would advance with his plan to complete the second administration of doses (for children between 15 and 18 years) on February 28, even though the obstacles were faced because of the closure of many schools.
The February target has been determined by the state government so that all council exam participants can be fully vaccinated with both doses before the State Council’s exam starts from mid-March.
Kunrup (Metro) District, which covers Guwahati city area, has seen the fastest infection during the peak in three waves of pandemic.
However, less than 50% of children in the specified age group can be vaccinated in urban districts, and it is largely with the first dose, revealing data on the Ministry of Health.
The source said that of the total target of inoculation of 20.37 lakh children, Kumbrup (Metro) has a vaccination target of 97,526.
But until Tuesday, only 42,054 children, accounting for 43.12% was vaccinated in this district.
In Assam, only 6,000 children got the second jab, which began on Tuesday.
“Despite the closure of the school and high level of participants in cities and cities made a large number of students limited to their homes in recent weeks, part of the guardian did not send their children to get vaccinations.
Previously, the plan was to vaccinate all School children in the age group 15-18 to protect them from viruses, “said senior health department official to Ti.
He said after the center told the APEX court that no one could vaccinate his will, some guards had begun to show reluctance to get school children vaccinated.
The highest 1.31 lakh children are expected to be inoculated in the Nagaon district in Central Assam but only around 35.15 percent or 46,244 of the 1.31,525 targets have been vaccinated.
