GUWAHATI: Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Saturday reported that coal generation in the country should ne ramped upwards, which consequently has been miniscule compared with the enormous untapped reserves.
Sarma following having a meeting with officials of Parliament of North Easters Coalfields of Coal India Limited in Margherita at Tinsukia district Saturday tweeted,”Assam is fortunate to get abundant with natural resources and full of minerals and mines.
We boast of a coal inventory of 525 mn tonnes from that the paltry 17.90 mn tonnes are extracted up to now.
We want concerted attempt to scale up this.” He also added,”Now we had a constructive conversation with officials of @CoalIndiaHQ in NEC Margherita.
We determined that there’s merit in immediately beginning Tirap colliery & Tirap Open Twist Project.
This has capacity to make 0.7 mn tonnes coal each year.” Sarma promised in a different tweet that authorities”will function satisfactorily to solve all problems pertaining to Environment and Forest and Land Revenue Dept.
I’m also taking this up using @moefcc and @CoalMinistry to solve all pending clearances.
A meeting has been projected next month at New Delhi to talk about these problems.”
