Assam: Student Tech Miss Offline Class Over Hostel Confused

Guwahati: Secondary students from two leading state engineering colleges, Jorhat Engineering College (JEC) and the Jorhat Institute of Science & Technology (JIST), are being seized from the offline class due to confusion about the government’s order about the reopening of the institution.
Hostel.
Only the last year’s tech students, for whom the dormitory has been reopened, attending the physical class.
Even though online education is underway, some students are uncomfortable by teaching and more like in-people.
The command issued by the State Education Department on October 21 stated that in connection with students from all semesters and high school classes, PG colleges, universities and technical institutions, who will stay in hostels, a quick antigen test will be mandatory before entering the dormitory.
The order said the direction came into effect on November 1 itself.
However, the reopening step of the hostel comes with motorists —— Covid’s peposititivity level in the district must be less than 2%.
The main secretary to the Ministry of Education Assam, B Kalyan Chakravarthy, told TOI that from November 1 all hostels in the state have been left open.
“From class 1 to higher classes there are no sidewalks,” Chakravarthy said, adding that the question of not reopening the hostel wherever in the state did not appear.

Principal JEC Reeta Sarmah said the offline class was only possible for students last year.
“We are a housing agency.
In accordance with the direction of the government, we continue online education for intermediary students.
They are not residents of the hostel.
The last year students are in the hostel and join the physical class,” he added.
Because most students from state college techniques live in hostels on campus, hostel closures for intermediary students have also seized them from offline classes.
The interpretation of government and SOP interpretations has affected the study of engineering students because for many of their poor internet connectivity and the lack of proper digital infrastructure has become an obstacle.
A JIST official said they communicate with the district administration for clarification on this issue, but have not received a reply.
Two government schools in Guwahati, which were declared the detention zone on October 28 after detecting Covid infection between several teachers, reopened on Monday.
In other private schools in the city, Kamrup (Metro) DC Bisang Pegu said 12 students had tested positive covid in the last two days.
“The source of infection has not been confirmed,” said Pegu, because the district government said the school was a micro detention zone for seven days from Monday.
