Silchar: “Unknown” disease has killed a large number of pigs in the Valley Cachar Barak district in recent weeks, said Source.
The locals said the carcass of a hundred pigs had been found in Tikargram, Arunachal, on the outskirts of Silchar.
The carcass lay in the backyard of Krishi Vigyan Kendra and beside the railroad tracks, among other areas.
Rajnagar member Gaon Pancrayat Gopal Paul said on Friday that a large number of pig wrecks had been found in Arunachal, which gave an irresistible stench but there was no step taken by the district government to clean it.

M Sarkar from Silchar Animal Hospital on Saturday said pigs often suffer from swine flu but the reasons behind death in Arunachal were unknown.
The veterinary department has started an investigation, he said.
