Thane: Jitendra Awhad, NCP leader and high profile Minister of Housing in the MVA government, was arrested by police Thane on Thursday in this case related to the April 2020 attack on Civil Engineers Anand Karmuse.
He was produced in front of the Judge Court, who immediately released him with a guarantee.
BJP demanded immediate dismissal after his arrest.
But Awhad, the leadership of NCP and Shiv Sena rejected the request, said the BJP had to be the first Union Minister Sack Narayan Rane, who was also arrested last month for making a comment insulting CM Uddhav Thackeray.
This was the first time in recent years that a cabinet minister was arrested for criminal demands and then released with a guarantee.
CM will make a decision about whether the Awhad sack from the cabinet, since now, he is only accused and has not been proven guilty, said the source.
After Kirit Somaiya demanded his dismissal, Awhad said he did not want to respond to BJP leaders.
“I did not respond to Somaiya.
I have full confidence in the judiciary, the law will take its own way,” he said.
