‘Astrology course in accordance with the NEP guidelines to promote Bharatiya Gyaan Paramara’

Nagpur: Introduction to M.A (Jyotish) by Indira Gandhi National Open University (Ignou) has caused a diverse reaction from netizens.
Even Maharashtra’s Andhashraddha Nirmoo Samiti has demanded a course withdrawal.
Speaking to Toi, Deputy Chancellor Igehou, Nageshwar Rao stated surprised at the development and said that the decision of his varsity did not violate any norms.
Extraordinary …
Some course criticisms say there is no scientific basis for astrology, but you have introduced it at Masters.
Degree rate.
The Jyotish degree program is offered in the Humanities.
We have not linked part of the course with the flow of science.
I feel strange that people ask the scientific basis for the course in the Humanities.
Tomorrow, people will ask about the background of scientific subjects such as Hindi.
Hindhashraddha Nirmoolan Samiti, an association that creates awareness of superstition, has filed an objection.
Some people might argue that astrology is an instrument used by people to make important personal or business decisions, therefore offering such a degree program only strengthens this belief.
The airline is part of our Indian tradition and we cannot ignore it.
So I really disagree if someone says that it offers such a course equivalent to the spread of superstitious.
This course has been prepared and curated by astrologers.
National Education Policy (NEP) itself is looking for traditional Indian study promotions.
I’m fine with people who raise objections when we live in democracy and we will clarify their doubts.
We have not introduced subjects as science courses, but in the humanities.
We create awareness about the subject through courses that have been examined by experts.
Do you expect a strong reaction during the course? No, and that’s because we are not pioneers.
Jyotish Vidya is offered at least three to four different universities in several or other forms.
And I personally know the institutions that have offered similar types of courses for at least a decade.
I was surprised that such a reaction just came when Ignou started the course.
Whatever, we are open to all suggestions about the course.
What drives you to start this degree program? This course is in full compliance with national education policies that say that Bharatiya Gyaan Paramara (traditional Indian studies) must be promoted.
I do not understand what is wrong in creating awareness about our past traditions with optional courses.
People still examine horoscopes for weddings and other things, so that is something that is part of our culture.
And for those who oppose it, let me make it clear that this degree program is optional, so no students are under coercion anything to register.
Similar courses to promote traditional Indian studies planned for the future? We are working on the course? We are working on a course that will make Sanskrit learning much easier.
Details will be provided soon.
