Asymptomatic diabetes new concern for HYD

Hyderabad: In a worrying trend that has made a health expert confused, hundreds of cases of asymptomatic diabetes came to light during routine health checks throughout Hyderabad without symptoms of blood sugar rising, the doctor said.
The majority of new patients do not have typical symptoms of diabetes such as urination, fatigue, excessive thirst or hunger, weight loss and opaque vision.
Nutritionists and diabetologists say it can be associated with changes in food and limited intake or no exercise during a pandemic.
Take a 47-year-old Suhasini Kumar case, which has a blackout at home for 45 seconds and his family insist on the main health check the next day.
“During the examination, my blood sugar levels were higher.
Because I did not have a family history of the diabetes, the doctors decided to do a more stupid test that proved that I did have high blood sugar,” Kumar said who lived in Banjara Hills.
“It was a jolt for me because I had never had signs of the usual diabetes symptoms and if I didn’t go for the test, I would not know that I had asymptomatic diabetes.
Fortunately with changes in food and lifestyle, I can reverse it, I was told , “he added.
Doctors say more and more people during locking have developed higher blood sugar and are completely dark about it.
Even the children who are overweight as young as 12 years are testing asymptomatic diabetes and pre-diabetes.
“In the past half a year with limited physical activity and the same amount of calorie intake leads to the addition of drastic weight, we see many people who come for routine examinations and have the discovery of diabetes opportunities,” said K Sunitha Premalurha, Diet Head, Hospital Yashoda.
He gave an example of pre-diabetes coincidence in a 23-year-old child who came with foot swelling on Thursday.
The boy was also detected to be diabetes during the examination.
“When we ask for typical symptoms, they do not have anything but the general thing is a limited physical activity.
Additional weight of 6-8 kg in a one-year range is seen in this patient,” he added.
While many interests are placed on weight gain, increasing waist size to maintain a diabetes check, awareness about pre-diabetes is equally important, the doctor said.
Higher stress levels during pandemics also play their role, believe in doctors.
“The number one reason for diabetes is stress.
Diabetes can be caused by stress, caused by drugs or even induced covids.
Every time a high level of stress remains unexpected in time, it raises hidden diabetes and hypertension,” said Dr.
Ashish Chauhan, a consultant diabetologist Senior in Apollo Hospitals, who has seen 100 new cases since the pandemic.
“Many patients also have unclear symptoms such as depression, irritation, sleepiness, insomnia and sexual dysfunction but they do not know that it can be a symptom because of lack of awareness,” he added.
