Noida: The level of pollution in Noida deteriorates on Christmas Day to sneak into the ‘severe’ category, making it the third most pollution city in the country after Faridabad and Delhi.
While city air quality has been in the ‘very poor’ category for the past few days, the air quality index (AQI) dipped 414 points (on a scale of 500) on Saturday after a significant reduction of wind speeds.
Aqi was recorded at 397 a day ago.
Faridabad and Delhi, meanwhile, recorded AQIS at 432 and 431 on Saturday.
Air quality also deteriorated in neighboring Ghaziabad and Greater Noida and recorded at 393 and 392 points, respectively, both in the “very poor” category.
Both cities see AQI 386 and 368 points a day back, according to the Central Pollution Control Agency (CPCB) data.
Utsav Sharma, regional officers at the Uttar Pradesh (UPPCB) pollution control agency, said the air quality would likely increase from December 27 and so on.
“Hopefully, people will be able to ring in the new year with a slight increase at the level of air quality,” he said, adding that the Indian Meteorology Department (IMD) had estimated part of a cloudy sky until December 27 and a storm with the possibility of hail at 28 December.
It also predicted light rain and the goal on December 26 and 27.
While the maximum and minimum temperature in GB Nagar is recorded at 23 degrees Celsius and 10 degrees, on Saturday, the IMD shows at further temperatures.
