Jaipur: Sepoy Balwant Singh, a 97-year-old World War II veteran from Jhunjhunu in North Rajasthan, won a long personal battle on Tuesday when a military court gave him a retirement of government war disability in 2008 from 2008.
He lost his left foot with a land explosion while Fixed with the Indian contingent for allied forces in Italy on December 15, 1944, and was dismissed two years later at the basic retirement provided for the unauthorized army after suffering wounds of war.

The administrative member of Chennai said Singh would get 100% retirement from 2008 along with arrears, which was three years before he filed this case.
Singh Counsel Col (Pension) SB Singh said Veteran WWII and his family in Gidaniya Village in Jhunjhunu District was pleased with the news.
“Balwant Singh’s disability was 100% because he lost his left foot.
We are happy that he has at least some contributions rejected to him.” “We are happy that he has at least some contributions to deny it,” Singh said.
Singh served in Indian Pre-Independence forces for three years, two months and 16 days before he had to retire before his time after losing his leg.
His son, Subhash Singh, said he was happy with the tribunal decision, but it felt it could be better if the developed country to help him.
“We live in a village and don’t know anything about retirement for injured battles.
We came to know it only after the Cargil War (summer 1999).
We want to have the same incentive given to other war veterans,” he said .
