At least 12 killed in the Afghan earthquake: District officials

Herat: At least 12 people were killed after the earthquake hit Western Afghanistan on Monday, said an official.
The victims died when their housing roof collapsed in the Qadis district in Western Province Badghis, District Governor Mohammad Saleh Purdel told AFP.
The earthquake was magnitude 5.3, according to the US geologic survey, which initially recorded the magnitude as 5.6.
“Some people are also injured in today’s earthquake,” Purdel said, adding that the victims were including women and children.
Afghanistan is often hit by an earthquake, especially in the Hindu Kush Mountains, located near the intersection of the Eurasia and Indian tectonic plate.
The earthquake can cause significant damage to houses and buildings built poorly in the poor Afghanistan.
