Nassiriya: At least 39 people were killed and more than 20 others were injured in a fire at the Coronavirus hospital in the southern city of Nassiriya Iraq, a health and police official said on Monday.
“The health crew brought the body charred out of a burning hospital while many cough patients from smoke increased,” said Reporter Reuters on the site’s site.
The state to run the Iraqi news agency quoted the Ministry of Health officials who said that search operations at Al-Hussain Hospital Coronavirus continued after the fire was controlled.
“The raging fires has trapped many patients in the Coronavirus Ward team and rescue struggling to reach them,” said a health worker told Reuters before entering the combustion building.
The initial police report suggested that the oxygen tank explosion in the Covid-19 Hospital was the cause of the fire, a police officer at the fire scene.
Health sources said the death toll could rise because many patients were still missing.
Two health workers were between the dead, they said.
In April, the fire caused by an oxygen tank explosion at the Covid-19 hospital in Baghdad needed at least 82 lives while 110 people were also injured.
It has been destroyed by war and sanctions, the Iraqi health care system has struggled to overcome the Coronavirus crisis, which has killed 17,592 people and infected more than 1.438 million.
