New Delhi: This center will make it mandatory for car makers to provide a minimum of six airbags in motorized vehicles that can carry up to 8 passengers for increased safety of residents, Union Nitin Gadkari minister on Friday.
In a series of tweets, road transportation and Minister of Highways said the ministry had mandated the implementation of the fitment of airbag drivers with the effects of July 1, 2019 and front co-passenger airbags with the effect of January 1, 2022.
In order to improve the security of residents in motorized vehicles carrying 8 Passengers, I have now approved the draft GSR notification to make a minimum of 6 compulsory airbags, “Gadkari said.
GSR here stands for general legal rules.
He further said that to minimize the impact of frontal and lateral collisions on its residents sitting in the front and rear compartment, it has been decided that the 4 additional airbags are mandated in the M1 vehicle category.
“It means two sides of the side / side of the airbag and two sides of the airbag / tube that cover all passengers paste.
This is an important step to making motorized vehicles in India safer than before,” he said.
According to Gadkari, this will ultimately ensure passenger security in all segments, regardless of vehicle costs / variants.
