Houston: At least eight people were killed and many were injured in a crush when fans surged on stage during the opening night of the Astroworld music festival on Friday in Houston, officials said.
The Head of the Houston Samuel Peña firefighter confirmed the victim’s numbers at the press conference early in the morning outside the park NRG.
Peña said that around 9pm, the crowd had gathered for the show by Rapper Travis Scott began to push towards the front of the stage, causing panic and injury.
People began to fall unconscious, and chaos increased until 9:38 a night when “mass victims’ incidents” were triggered, he said.
The fire department carried 17 people to the hospital, and 11 of them were transported in the heart stop.
It is unclear what caused the disaster.
“I think it’s very important that no one is speculated.
No one has all the answers tonight,” said Police Chief Houston Troy Finner.
“If you don’t have facts, if you don’t have evidence, I will not speak against it.
We have hurt the family here.” Live Nation, Event Organizers, did not immediately respond to a comment request.
The Houston Chronicle said Scott stopped several times during the 75-minute show when he saw fans in trouble near the front of the stage.
He asked for security to make sure they were fine and helped them get out of the crowd.
Emergency vehicles, lights and alarm flashing, cut the crowd several times.
The firefighting department said on Twitter that the reunification center was prepared for families who had not heard from loved ones at the festival.
The 50,000 crowd appeared for a two-day event, the paper was added.
The second day the festival has been canceled.
Houston Chronicle quoted Harris County Hakim Lina Hidalgo like calling it a “very tragic night.”
