ATC to cut travel time 7 minutes at 6.5km WHC Road

Nagpur: Travel time on the busy Western West Court road – from Japanese Garden Square to Khamla Square – arranged 7 minutes from 20 minutes, thanks to Nagpur Smart and Sustainable City Development Corporation Limited (NSSCDCL).
“With the intention of making a finer traffic movement under the Smart Street project, NSSCDCL, based on the pilot, has changed the traffic signal that is manually controlled on the 6.5km-long West Court road to the automatic traffic control system (ATC), “General manager NSSCDCL Sheel Ghule told Tii.
Running trial is underway, he added.
“ATC is equipped with sensors attached to CCTV cameras that capture real-time traffic data, calculate the optimal time to signal and send data to the command center and control,” said Ghule.
The camera installed at the intersection detects the volume of vehicles in three categories – 3 meters, 5 meters and 10 meters.
Real monitoring makes it easy to set certain signal time to optimize the flow of traffic.
ATC works on the density of the vehicle, and therefore sets the traffic signal time.
At present, there are 164 traffic signals in the city, where 10 on this stretch have been converted to ATC.
With more than 200 new vehicles registered every day in the city, the traffic situation becomes unbearable for motorists and traffic enforcers, including traffic police.
Also, because non-synchronization signals, travel time on most stretches has increased significantly.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic) Sarang Awad said ATC was the idea of Police Commissioner Amitesh Kumar and the first trial of the system was held smoothly.
“Some changes have been suggested to NSSCDCL and will be introduced after at least two more experiments,” DCP said.
Police Commissioner Kumar said: “We do this based on pilots in one of the busiest corridors.
After studying the trial experience, we will see if it can be further implemented on other roads in the city.” In current non-ATC monitoring, the traffic signal cycle Manually fed by the NMC Electricity Department team after studying the density of the vehicle on all sides of the intersection and the time taken for the vehicle to cross it.
ATC will eliminate the need to monitor and feed the traffic signal timing.
“ATC works on sensors, which detects traffic situations and sets certain signal time,” Ghule said.
Not only this, but this system also sets other signal timings on certain stretches to remove traffic.
Under this system, the maximum cycle for green signals is 40 seconds, while the minimum has been stored at 10 seconds on this stretch.
Explain further, Ghule said: “If there is a lower number of vehicles on one side of a particular intersection, the signal will remain green for only 10 seconds, instead of 40 seconds allocated.
The system will adjust the traffic signal timing based on traffic conditions Real-time.
“” We thought of replicating ATC models throughout the city, most of which included busy stretches such as Wardha Road, Avenue Central and Amravati Road, “DCP said, adding the system would be useful even to provide the Green corridor for corpse transplants and vehicle movements Emergency like an ambulance and fire tender.
