Male (Maldives): ATK Mohun Bagan started their AFC Cup campaign with a style with an easy 2-0 victory over another Indian club Bengaluru FC in Group D on Wednesday.
Captain Roy Krishna struck in the 39th minute before Boshasish Bose added another goal in the 46th minute to provide the initial kolkata-based side in the club’s second level club competition.
Better’s ownership of a better Bengaluru did not count much in the end because ATK MB found two goals in five shots they had on target.
BFC, on the other hand, has three shots right on target.
The result means that Bengaluru FC led by Sunil Chhetri has not been able to defeat ATK Mohun’s familiar rival since the Indian Super League 2019.
Chhetri himself could not do much in the match and replaced in the 68th minute by Leon Augustine.
Atk Mohun Chart, who qualified for the competition group stage based on the I-League campaign Mohun Bagan Mohun Bagan, will face Maziya Sports & Recreation of Maldives in their second group match on Saturday.
Bengaluru, who managed to reach the group stage after beating Club Eagles Maldives 1-0 in the play-off here on Sunday, Bashundhara Kings of Bangladesh in the next match, also on Saturday.
Only the winner of the group of four teams will be eligible for the inter-zone playoff semifinals.
