Mumbai: Anti Terrorism (ATS) Maharashtra forces have arrested Bangladesh citizens who have obtained Indian passports by giving fraud documents, an official said here on Saturday.
This was the arrest of 22 on the racket which was excavated by ATS last year, he said.
Irshad Shahabuddin Shaikh (33), a resident of Noakhali in Bangladesh, was arrested from Indira Gandhi Delhi International Airport on Friday, said Deputy Inspector General of Police (ATS) Shivdeep Lande.
A racket that facilitates passports based on documents obtained cheatly damaged by ATS last year and the recent agency made the arrest of Chennai, Bangalore, and Mumbai in the same case, he added.
ATS officials have got a tip-off that Shaikh arrived from Sharjah (UAE), so a team rushed to Delhi and arrested him when he left the airport, Lande said.
He was taken to Mumbai on Saturday morning and was produced in front of the court which stopped him in ATS detention until October 8.
Shaikh has obtained Indian identification documents in West Bengal and then obtained a passport in Mumbai, said excavation, adding that further investigation was taking place.
